Introduction and scope

This Privacy Policy applies to tickketa (“we”, “us”), the ticketing and events platform serving Uganda, and to every visitor, registered user, event organiser, and staff account that interacts with our website and related services (together, the “Service”). It sets out, in detail, what personal data we process, the legal grounds for processing it, how long we keep it, and the rights available to you under applicable data protection law, including Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019.

Information you give us

We collect information that you provide directly to us, including:

  • Account information: your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, gender, and profile picture
  • Payment information: payment method details, processed securely through our payment providers – we do not store your full card or mobile money PIN
  • Event information: events you create, tickets you buy, and events you save to your wishlist
  • Communications: messages, feedback, and support requests you send us

Information collected automatically

When you use the Service, we automatically collect some technical information, including:

  • Device information: IP address, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers
  • Usage data: pages visited, time spent, links clicked, and similar interaction data
  • Location data: general location based on your IP address (not precise GPS location unless you grant it for a map feature)
  • Cookies and similar technologies: see our Cookie Policy for details

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
  • Process your ticket purchases and manage your account
  • Send transaction confirmations, event updates, and important notices
  • Respond to your enquiries and provide customer support
  • Send you marketing communications, only with your consent
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues, fraud, and security threats
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service
  • Understand how the Service is used so we can improve it

When we share information

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only where necessary to run the Service:

  • With event organisers, so they can prepare for your attendance (your name, ticket details, and any information the event requires for entry)
  • With payment processors, to complete and secure your transaction
  • With service providers who support our operations, such as hosting, email delivery, and analytics – under agreements that limit their use of your data
  • When required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of tickketa, our users, or the public

Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and understand how the Service is used. You can manage these at any time on our Cookie Preferences page. See our Cookie Policy for the full list of cookies we use.

How we protect your information

We use technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections between your device and our servers, password protection for accounts, and access controls that limit who at tickketa can view your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so while we work hard to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

How long we keep your data

We keep your account information for as long as your account is active, and ticket and transaction records for as long as needed for accounting, tax, and dispute-resolution purposes, after which we delete or anonymise it. You can ask us to close your account and delete your personal data at any time, subject to records we must keep by law.

Your rights and choices

Subject to applicable law, you can:

  • Access and update your personal information at any time through your account settings
  • Ask us to delete your account and personal data
  • Opt out of marketing communications by using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email, or by updating your notification settings
  • Ask us what personal data we hold about you, and request a copy of it

Children’s privacy

The Service is intended for people aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal data, please contact us and we will remove it.

Where your data is processed

We are based in Uganda and primarily process data here. Some of the service providers we use for hosting, payments, or analytics may process data outside Uganda; where that happens, we take reasonable steps to make sure your information continues to receive an appropriate level of protection.

Your rights under Ugandan law

Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 gives you rights over your personal data, including the right to access, correct, and request deletion of your data, and the right to lodge a complaint with the Personal Data Protection Office if you believe we have not handled your data properly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will let you know by email or by a notice on the Service before the change takes effect. The “Last Updated” date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
